Experimental holiday

My parents are in their 70s and not in the best of health and so we have been talking about moving closer to them, ideally in the next few months. I have also been thinking about getting a camper van for travel and to potentially use instead of renting an office. I have stayed in a Caravan before but never a camper so I thought I had better try it before my plans get too advanced.

We decided to visit Dorset, for a break from being in the house since March and to look at areas with a view to choosing a location to move to so we decided that instead of staying in a hotel we would hire a campervan to see how we get on sleeping under…steel.

We hired Cedric from Quirky Campers. That meant that we could drive to Havant in Hampshire by car and only have to drive the van from there to Dorset.

I was the driver and enjoyed driving the 6 mtr long Citroen Relay around the country lanes and along the coast road (Mick enjoyed this less than I did).

We stayed at three different camp sites, one at Nottington near Weymouth for two nights, one near Brockenhurst in the new forest and one near Havant for a night each. We didn’t cook in the van but ate out and ordered a take away to the site on Wednesday evening (a first for me). We used the shower facilities at the sites as the van only had an outside shower (and it is October). The last one we had not booked until the day as we had not decided what to do with our last morning. I booked a pitch from their website and when we arrived we realised that this one was in a different league. One of our neighbours was in a huge brand new (70 registration) Mercedes RV like this one 🤩. No offence Cedric.

We travelled on Monday, toured West Dorset on Tuesday, went to Portland Bill and travelled onto the New Forest on Wednesday, spent some time in Brockenhurst and Lymington and travelled on to Havant on Thursday. We plan to spend some time on Hayling island where my dad was born this morning before returning Cedric and traveling home.

Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think.
