Moving while distracted

The next big thing on the radar is a house move. We moved from Leeds in 2020 to be closer to my parents and have lived in three different places since then. A tiny bungalow in West Bay which I moved into with Roxy at first and Mick joined us after about four months. We quickly realised that it was a little too small for the three of us full time. I found a gorgeous place in North Dorset which was a converted stable building and looked out onto a beautiful valley. We only had one close neighbour if you don’t count the cows, the owl and the buzzards. It was 45 minutes from Mum & Dad though and Mum had a medical issue in late 2022, which at the time we thought was a stroke so we moved again into a one bedroom flat with noisy neighbours five minutes walk away from the folks.
We are moving again, in the next six weeks or so (fingers crossed). It is a two bedroom house in the next village along the coast road and only 10 minutes from Mum & Dad. It has a garden which will be so much better than having to get up, dressed and walk Roxy to the top of the close at 2am. I will be able to work from there without taking up so much of the living space and we will be less than ten minutes drive from this view.
Quiz time, what album cover includes a representation of something in this photo?
So what is the issue? Moving is a lot, particularly for ADHDers. There is lots of admin 🥱 and lots of details to deal with/lose track of. Plus when I start packing I am going to find things I haven’t seen for ages and get distracted. We have the contents of a two/three bedroom house in a one bedroom flat, without my office stuff which is in storage and I am going to need to start decluttering and packing properly very soon.
Well it worked with the self assessment return and so I am going to use you lot as accountability buddies to get me doing what I need to do again.
Here is my draft list:
- Get boxes and tape ✔️
- Complete all of the forms and checks I have been sent, uploading ID etc
- Start to eat things from the freezer ✔️
- Speak to movers and get quotes ✔️
- Go through the place room by room and pack *Danger Will Robinson* — In progress
- Go through the place room by room and get rid of things we don’t need any more — In progress
- Book the movers
- Arrange pre move admin, mail redirection, changing address with organisations, complete form for new surgery etc
- Change over insurances
- Pack last out/first in boxes, kettle etc, tape, bin bags, loo roll, towels, shower gel, bedding, dog food etc
- Be sure to leave the information relating to things in the old property there
- Take meter readings
- Last bit of cleaning
What have I forgotten? What do you find hard about moving and what tips have you got?
