“Weeks are the four-on-the-floor kick-drum of eternity” Russell Davies

Last week (as I am tardy again) was increasingly frustrating. Dad was running out of pain relief. I called early on Tuesday and managed to get through to someone who promised to pass the request to the pharmacy team. Two days later nothing had happened. The GP surgery phones are ridiculous after 10am and so I drove there to speak to the receptionist six times in two days.

If you follow me on Twitter you will have seen my complaints so I won’t repeat all of them here.

Thread of issues from Friday 8th

As of today Monday 11th, he has been out of hospital for 10 days. He has Cellulitis in his legs which are really swollen and uncomfortable, his arms and hands are painful making using the walker difficult and he is getting really fed up. He (as of Saturday lunchtime) has antibiotics and so hopefully his legs will start to get better.

I am running around doing things like helping him up the last couple of days due to the infection and pain in his arms and hands, sorting out pills, a wheelchair, a bar to help him pull himself up the bed and helping my mum to deal with it all.

I am exhausted and so are they. When I was in hospital after my Stroke in 2011 I said that everyone individually was great but that it didn’t connect up very well. Well in the last 12 years things have got worse. I tip my hat to all of of the people in the NHS. I don’t know how you do it.

Remember people who have private healthcare. There is no emergency provision. If you need that, you will still be dependant on the NHS for care.

I received Mothers Day cards and gifts from the steps this week. A beautiful orchid and a voucher. ❤️

To end the week my Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock teeshirt came out of the wash with significant damage.

This Week

I have a conversation with a lovely returning coaching client who I am looking forward to catching up with.

I am on call to help Mum get Dad out of bed if necessary although he is up today with breakfast eaten and pills taken. Today’s Dad job is to start the conversation about ongoing pain relief with the GP. I don’t have proxy access yet. Wish me luck.
